The meeting on Thursday with the body dr and the mind drs resulted in them consulting with each other. Different fields of medicine but they are obviously linked.
The antipsychotic medication, has caused constipation, which caused the GI bleed 2 years ago. Molly was then catatonic, she was prescribed lorazepam which also causes constipation. Molly was on senna, ducasate and laxido for her constipation, this was reduced to senna only as her Quetiapine was gradually reduced from 500mg to 150mg.
The gastro consultant recommended stopping senna as Molly will likely have become tolerant of it and it may well not be helping her anymore, ducasate will be restarted along with a regular laxido sachet. In six weeks Molly will not be prescribed Quetiapine, it was agreed to reduce it by 50mg’s fortnightly then stop.
Note: Amilsulpride the new Antipsychotic also causes constipation.
This weekend has took a turn for the worst, she was in pain, constipated and even though she did have a bowel movement today she was sick from 8am until 3pm. She is very repetitive, pacing, agitated and off balance. She also has urinary incontinence so, as you can imagine I am feeling very confused and concerned.
I thought we were getting somewhere but with all the changes I can no longer rationalise or keep track about any of this mess.
Why did the sickness stop then restart?
Is she still having withdrawal symptoms from Quetiapine and will it get worse now that a decision has been made to get her off it?
Is she adjusting to starting Amilsulpride ?
Why is she losing weight?
Why does she have urinary incontinence?
Where to now?
Normally I may have called 111 today but this as they say is a chronic not acute issue so we sat it out.
We will have a face to face meeting in Newcastle this coming Thursday (RADS Psychiatry).
Now let me see….
