Right now Molly is or has been presenting with Stupor, (absence of spontaneous movement) Mutism, (no speech), Agitation and Negativism (motiveless resistance to instruction or attempts to move unplanned and without purpose.

Tonight I have been looking for more information around negativism especially around mental health and learnt that it is an attitude characterised by persistent resistance to the suggestion of others (passive negativism) or the tendency to act in ways that are contrary to the expectations, requests, or commands of others (active negativism), typically without any identifiable reason for opposition.

It’s not that Molly won’t it is that she can’t, it is devastating to witness, we have no choice but to be exceptionably patient.

Molly is home tonight, spending time with her behavior’s always gets me searching, reading – looking for help for her, for me and to know more about these breakdown periods. Molly at her worst had , increased slowness, Movement difficulties (freezing and getting stuck), she became prompt dependent, was passive and had no motivation with periods of shutdown (absence) and not being able to get out of bed. Molly has always struggled with transitions but this has also become increasingly worse for her. It was very noticeable when she tried to pick up a cup with a to and fro movement and then eventually she could pick it up likewise with walking and going over thresholds.

What next?

Currently (newly) medicated with Lorazepam and Venlafaxine, review planned for week commencing 21st August 2023.

Note: Antipsychotic has been administered since she was discharged from Hospital in 2019.

Now let me see…..
